Establishment of the Institute of Environmental Professionals of Sri Lanka

- The Member of Parliament, Mr. Harshana Rajakaruna had submitted a private member's Bill in Parliament on the 19th of February 2016 to incorporate the Institute of Environmental Professionals of Sri Lanka. According to the procedure of reporting to Parliament on a private member's Bill by a Member of Parliament, the Legal Draftsman has amended the draft considering the recommendations of the Attorney General in that regard. As such, the proposal made by H.E. the President in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment to table the draft Bill in Parliament to incorporate the said institution, in order to provide a social and professional recognition to environmental scientists and professionals with standards and code of ethics, within the global context as it makes provision for them to gain professional recognition locally and internationally through establishment of the said institution, was approved by the Cabinet.
