Minimization of greenhouse emission in energy sector as at 2030 in compliance with the Paris Agreement of Climate Change of the United Nations
- Sri Lanka also has signed the Paris Agreement which was adopted in the 21st Summit of the partners of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Paris in the year 2015. Accordingly, Sri Lanka is obliged for the minimization of the greenhouse emission in the year 2030 by 20% comparative to the year 2020. Taking this into consideration, the Cabinet noted the information submitted by H.E the President in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment on the importance of focusing special attention on environmental conservation, public health security and greenhouse emission, and on the significance of taking decisions connected with the matter concerned based only on the observations and recommendations granted through scientific environmental assessments conducted by following the national environmental laws, in case power stations using non renewable energy sources are constructed during the decade from 2020 to 2030.
