Amendments to the National Zoological Gardens Act, No.41 of 1982

- It has been identified that the National Zoological Gardens Act, No.41 of 1982 should be amended to suit the present functions of the Department of National Zoological Gardens and its institutional structure. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs to refer the National Zoological Gardens Act, No.41 of 1982 to the Legal Draftsman to amend it as appropriate to the present and the proposed new activities of the Department of National Zoological Gardens, removing the existing legal restrictions in carrying out ex situ conservation of animals (outside the natural habitat) and the animal breading programmes experimentally, was approved by the Cabinet.
