Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2019-07-19
Regulations made under the Factories Ordinance (Chapter 128)
- The main function under the Factories Ordinance is the inspection of factories by the Department of Labour so as to maintain the occupational safety and health as well as the welfare of the workers. Although, the provisions in the Ordinance have been in operation for well over 65 years, a few regulations only have been made therein up to date. Accordingly, considering the necessity of the effective enforcement of the law, the proposal made by H.E. the President, at the request of the Non Cabinet Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations, to present the regulations pertaining to Registration of Factories and Approval of Factory Buildings; Registration of Steam Boilers; Issue of certificates for examination of Steam Boilers and other Pressure Vessels; Protection of workers from Excessive Noise and General Standards of Lighting, in Parliament for approval and on receipt of such approval, to publish them in the Government gazette, was approved by the Cabinet.
