Taking necessary action for the deportation of the detainees at the Mirihana Detention Camp
- The foreigners who have violated the Immigrants and Emigrants Act, No.20 of 1948 until the relevant Courts or Institutional proceedings are concluded and those delaying their return to their own countries after concluding their proceedings, are detained in the detention camp situated in the Mirihana Police Station. Although, adequate facilities have been provided in the camp for only 36 detainees, presently, there are 166 detainees are of various nationalities detained in the camp. As a result of these detainees being detained under minimum facilities, various issues have cropped up among them. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Internal & Home Affairs and Provincial Councils & Local Government, to take necessary action, for the deportation of the detainees so detained in the camp of the Mirihana Police Station to their own countries within a short period, was approved by the Cabinet.
