Establishment of the “Scholarship for Educational Excellence - SEE Fund”

- Presently, around 160,000 students, out of the 250,000 students who sit for the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination gain eligibility for admission to University Education. With the objective of supporting personal growth on educational excellence and carrier development the Government wishes to provide scholarships to the highest performers of those students in the fields of Physical Science, Biological Science, Technology, Commerce and Arts to pursue their undergraduate studies at the world renowned Universities such as Harvard, MIT, Oxford and Cambridge, etc. As such, it has been proposed to adopt an Act in Parliament for the establishment of the 'Scholarship for Educational Excellence - SEE Fund' through the Budget 2019. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Finance, to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft legislation for the said purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
