Launching a Cable Car Project for the promotion of the Tourism Sector
- Nuwara Eliya situated at the apex point in Sri Lanka which inherits a splendorous environment with a star attraction of local and foreign tourists and as a further step towards enhancing its glamour, a project proposal has been submitted by the Outdoor Engineering Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd. and its foreign partner Doppelmayr Cable Car to initiate a Cable Car Project from Nanu Oya to Single Tree and Gregory Lake. The project which is proposed to be implemented with an investment of US$ 50 million, proposes to construct 21 towers connecting Nanu Oya Railway Station, Race Course and Single Tree hill in Nuwara Eliya consisting of 86 cabins where 10 people could travel in each cabin and out of which 43 cabins will be installed under its first phase. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Plantation Industries to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding, to implement the project as a project of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet.
