Amendments to the National Institute of Language Education and Training Act, No.26 of 2007
- The National Institute of Language Education and Training has been established by the National Institute of Language Education and Training Act, No.26 of 2007 with a view to practically implementing the Language Policy of the Government. The main objectives of this institution are to create teachers of the Sinhala, Tamil and English languages, translators and interpreters and to train individuals with trilingual proficiency. The proposal made by Hon. Mano Ganesan, the Minister of National Integration, Official Languages, Social Progress and Hindu Religious Affairs, to amend the National Institute of Language Education and Training Act, No.26 of 2007, to widen the objectives of establishing the Institute more broadly for conducting Language Courses to suit the present trends, by developing interrelationships with the Universities and the other Higher Educational Institutes, to conduct Language Classes at Divisional level and to establish Divisional Training Centres, was approved by the Cabinet.
