New Legislation to replace the Assistance to and Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Act

- The Assistance to and Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Act, has been enacted in the year 2015. The proposal made by Hon. (Mrs.) Thalatha Atukorala, the Minister of Justice & Prison Reforms, to present a new draft Bill in Parliament updating the said Act inclusive of the provisions required to comply with the international norms and best practices on the subject of victims of crime and witnesses, and to repeal the Assistance to and Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Act, No.04 of 2015, was approved by the Cabinet.
