Implementation of the Project for 'Cleaning of Beira Lake by Desilting and Flushing'

- Presently, the area around the Beira lake is made use of as a commercial and residence centre and with a view to making the environment around it attractive and protecting the water network of the lake, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis & Western Development to implement a project by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation inclusive of desilting the Beira lake, rehabilitation of the Beira Lake Spillway, monitoring of the water quality and the prevention of solid waste and pollutants diffusing into the water body, with an investment of Rs.800 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
