Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2019-06-25
Amendments to the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board Act No.11 of 1984
- The National Dangerous Drugs Control Board Act, No.11 of 1984 provided for the establishment of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board to prevent the use of illicit drugs, and specifying its powers, has been amended by the Acts No.41 of 1986 and No.21 of 1990. Illicit drug use and spread within Sri Lanka has been increased at present compared to 1980s in which period this Act was formulated and the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board which is the prime institution of creating and reviewing national policy for preventing and controlling of drug abuse, treatment and rehabilitation, has to be strengthened legally. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence to amend the The National Dangerous Drugs Control Board Act, No.11 of 1984, was approved by the Cabinet.
