Payment of compensation to the persons affected by the reason terror attacks and renovation of churches damaged as a result
- The approval of the Cabinet has been granted previously to pay Rs.10 lacks for a deceased person and a person who had become totally disabled, and compensation up to a sum of Rs.5 lacks for those who had sustained injuries and to pay compensation in respect of properties damaged up to a sum of Rs.5 million and to renovate the Churches damaged expeditiously. Accordingly, the Office for Reparation has by now paid a compensation of a sum exceeding Rs.198 million for the persons affected and has provided Rs.25 million as an advance for the renovation of sacred places. Similarly, action has been taken to transfer a portion of land in extent of 09 perches belonging to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, in order to ensure the security of St. Anthony's Church in Kochchikade. However, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs, to appoint a Committee comprising of the officers of the relevant institutions, to build a fund amounting to Rs.500 million with donations from the Public and the Private sector to provide further relief to persons who have become disabled and for children affected due to the attacks and to provide relief having identified the special needs of those affected, was approved by the Cabinet.
