Empowerment of the families subject to distress and damage by the terrorist attacks

- It is reported that the total number of families affected by the terrorist attacks which occurred recently is 344 and 156 families out of them have lost at least one of their members and one family member in the least out of 188 families has sustained injuries. The Government has identified the necessity for an expeditious programme for the upliftment and the social, economic, cultural, educational and spiritual welfare of all the members of such families. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Sajith Premadasa, Minister of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs, to secure funds for the implementation of the special 'Swashakthi' Human Development Programme by the Urban Settlement Development Authority with the coordination of the 'Sethsarana' Institution which is a social action arm of the Catholic Council, for the empowerment of the families affected by the said attacks, was approved by the Cabinet.
