The Physical and Human Resources Development Programme of the Uva Wellassa

- Due to the freedom struggle carried out by the Uva Wellassa people against the huge oppression directed by the Colonial Administration, the Britishers destroyed the tanks and anicuts, gardens and fields, temples and properties and the human lives in the area rampantly in a devastating scale causing the areas to plunge in a grave economic and social decline. Although, projects have been implemented aimed at the development of those areas, it is essential to carry out an expeditious development further in the physical and human resources of same. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance; and Hon. Ranjith Madduma Bandara, the Minister of Public Administration & Disaster Management for the implementation of a programme aimed at water management, industry promotion, infrastructure facility development, rehabilitation of sacred places, the upliftment of the agri-farms and rural industries etc. and thereby the implementation of the livelihood programmes pertaining to women and the youth community, by utilizing a sum of Rs.400 million allocated to the Ministry of Public Administration & Disaster Management for the year 2019, was approved by the Cabinet.
