Implementation of the Recommendations made by the Ministerial Committee appointed to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity

- The Cabinet prior to this, had decided to appoint a Ministerial Committee under the Chairmanship of the Hon. Prime Minister, comprising of the Ministers of Finance; Power, Energy and Business Development, Highways & Road Development and Petroleum Resources Development; and Ports & Shipping and Southern Development to make recommendations pertaining to short term, medium term and long term strategies to solve the power crisis which has cropped up at present. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, to purchase 200MW powership to be connected at Kerawalapitiy by June 2019 for a period of 06 months at the rate of Rs.26.20 per power unit, and another 200MW powership to be connected at Galle in September 2019 for a period of 09 months at the rate of Rs.26.20, since recommendations have been made by the said Committee to that effect, to maintain an uninterrupted power supply in the country as an urgent need has arisen to purchase power supplies due to the situation prevailing in the field of power supply at present, was approved by the Cabinet.
