Amendments to the Official Languages Commission Act, No.18 of 1991
- The Official Languages Commission has been established under the Official Languages Commission Act, No.18 of 1991 to monitor and supervise the implementation of the Official Languages Policy in the Government Institutions. It has been observed that the amendments to this Act, is deemed essential to reorganize its administrative affairs, to empower the Commission with the necessary powers to monitor and supervise the implementation of the Official Languages Policy in the Government Institutions and for the effective investigation of public complaints regarding the violation of language rights. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Mano Ganesan, the Minister of National Integration, Official Languages, Social Progress and Hindu Religious Affairs to make amendments to the Official Languages Commission Act, No.18 of 1991, mindful of the said aim, was approved by the Cabinet.
