Continuation of the Urban Regeneration Project in the City of Colombo

- The Urban Regeneration programme has been implemented with an investment of Rs. 190 billion, with the objective of enhancing of the life standard of about 50,000 low income families living in the areas of Colombo. With the completion of this housing programme, it is anticipated that a land area of 400 acres could be released for commercial purposes. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis & Western Development, to construct 2,272 houses under the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank loan scheme in the land at Maligawatta belonging to the Department of Railways, Applewatta of Kettarama, Kimbula Ela of Bluemendhal and the Ratmalana Irrigation Land in addition to the projects planned to be constructed under the said project, was approved by the Cabinet.
