Ruwanwella Water Supply Project

- A proposal has been made to implement the Ruwanwella Water Supply Project so as to cover 03 Grama Niladhari Divisions of the Yatiyantota Divisional Secretary Division and 12 Grama Niladhari Divisions of the Ruwanwella Divisional Secretary Division. This project consists of an inlet in the Kelani River with a capacity of 4,400 cu.mt. per day, a water treatment plant with a capacity of 4,000 cu.mt., pumping of 3,000 mt. of untreated water, the construction 4 water treatment plants in the areas of Panapitiya, Mahalla, Kannanthota and Imbulana and the compressor of 20.5 km. in length and the distribution line of 100 km. in length. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs and Hon. Rauff Hakeem, the Minister of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education for the implementation of the project from the year 2019 by obtaining funds from the General Treasury for the estimates on further activities pertaining to the construction of 03 reservoirs, a part of the compressor and the distribution system and providing other facilities required for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
