Construction of a Import Cargo Terminal Building at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA)

- In the year 2018, the Bandaranaike International Airport has recorded over 280 million Metric Tons of of cargo and during the last 5 years the average annual growth rate of cargo handling at the BIA is noted as 8 %. Since the Airport does not have the adequate capacity comparatively, there is a heavy congestion at the cargo premises. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Arjuna Ranatunga, Minister of Transport & Civil Aviation, to initiate the procurement activities to construct a building for additional Import Cargo Terminal at BIA, was approved by the Cabinet.
