Enactment of a new Act to Eradicate Bribery or Corruption
- The approval of the Cabinet has been granted previously to amend the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Act and the Acts incidental thereto. Accordingly, section 20 of the Bribery Act has already been amended and enacted as Bribery (Amendment) Act, No.22 of 2018 and the Commissions of Inquiry Act has been amended and enacted as the Commissions of Inquiry (Amendment) Act, No.3 of 2019. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, to draft one Consolidated Act, including the Act to Eradicate Bribery or Corruption, the new Act to Investigate Allegation of Bribery or Corruption and the Amendment Act related to the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Act, instead of the new Act to be drafted, was approved by the Cabinet.
