Maintaining the Colombo Port City Land as a special zone
- The Port City has been created by the reclamation of land using sea sand with the objective of attracting foreign investment of a high value for the purpose of escalating the development of the national economy. Under this, a land extent of 269 hectares will be added to the land area of Sri Lanka and a sea coast of 2 km in length within an extent of 91 hectares consisting of roads and common vicinities, a central park, a sea belt suitable for swimming and water sports at any time of the year and a water way 70 m wide running across the town will be established within an extent of 91 hectares consisting of roads and common vicinities. This area will also consist of a holiday harbour with facilities for hotels and recreations, a recreation park, a conference hall for international educational and international health services. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis & Western Development, to establish a Property Management Company with the necessary authority for the management of this area inclusive of the implementation of the other activities and to publish the Colombo Port City as a state land situated in the Colombo District of the Western Province, in the Government Gazette, was approved by the Cabinet.
