Amendments to the Sports Act, No.25 of 1973
- The Sports Act, No.25 of 1973, which provides guidance towards the improvements of the sports field, has been amended in the years of 1993, 1998 and 2005, on timely requirements. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Harin Fernando, Minister of Telecommunication, Foreign Employment and Sports to draft necessary legislation to update the Sports Act, No.25 of 1973, incorporating factors such as granting approval for the accredited Institutes of Charted Auditors recommended by the Auditor General to audit the Annual Reports of National Associations, defining comprehensively the matters which the Minister can make orders under the Sports Act, increasing the fines levied under the Sports Act, making necessary provisions to include at least 02 persons who have earned fame in Track and Field events at International Events and of those who have represented the country in the Olympics or similar games, to the National Sports Council and strengthening the power to take legal action against the offenders under the Sports Act, was approved by the Cabinet.
