Granting compensation for the houses in Kolonnawa area damaged due to the floods in the year 2016

- Several areas in Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat Division were affected by floods due to the heavy rainfall in the year 2016 which caused over flowing of the Kelani River and the issues related to the systematic water flows. National Insurance Trust Fund had paid compensations to the houses and properties damaged thereby. Further, compensations have to be made for some more housing units affected by floods which had not been covered by the said compensations. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, Prime Minister and Hon. Ranjith Madduma Bandara, the Minister of Public Administration & Disaster Management to pay compensation for 1070 housing units for which Assessment Reports had been submitted for the damages, was approved by the Cabinet.
