Amendments to the Merchant Shipping Act, No.52 of 1971 in accordance with the Conventions of the International Maritime Organization
- The member states of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) should act in accordance with the very important mandatory conventions imposed by the said organization. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Sagala Ratnayaka, the Minister of Ports & Shipping and Southern Development to publish the draft Bill prepared to amend the Merchant Shipping Act, No.52 of 1971 which regulates the shipping activities of Sri Lanka and all the activities related thereto, in order to enact legislation to carry out the conventions of the IMO successfully and subsequently, to present the same in Parliament, for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
