Enter into an Agreement with the Asia Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet) for the Conversion of Pine Plantations of Sri Lanka into plantations with Indigenous Species
- The Cabinet has granted approval previously to implement a project for the Conversion of Pine Plantations of Sri Lanka into Indigenous Species forests taking into consideration the contribution which could be had to increase the soil and water conservation of the catchment areas in the forest plantations, and to develop the biodiversity by implementing a project for the development of an under plantation through the cultivation of indigenous species associated with pine plantations. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the said institution, to implement this project within the forthcoming 3 year period under the grants of the Asia Pacific Network of Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation, was approved by the Cabinet.
