Implementation of a Trade Adjustment Programme to accrue the benefits of the International Liberalized Trade

- In order to enhance the benefits which could be accrued to the Sri Lanka's economy through the competitiveness of the international liberalized trade, a comprehensive trade adjustment programme has been prepared with a wide participation of the parties involved in the field. Accordingly, with the objective of enabling the implemention of this programme in a productive manner, the joint proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance and Hon. Malik Samarawickrama, the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade to establish the Trade and Productivity Commission and a Joint Steering Committee as independent bodies that recommend the trade adjustments, was approved by the Cabinet.
