Establishment of a Laboratory with diagnostic facilities required for handling of harmful and dangerous micro-organism

- The Medical Research Institute (MRI) which has a history of around 116 years, conducts research and diagnosis covering many areas. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition & Indigenous Medicine to establish a Bio‑Safety Level 3 High Risk Laboratory with an investment of Rs.125 million with a view to developing advance diagnostic facilities for identifying and safe handling of harmful micro-organism in the event of a hazardous outbreak by further expanding the services of the MRI, was approved by the Cabinet.
