Development of the National Hospital for Respiratory Diseases at Welisara

- The National Hospital for Respiratory Diseases situated at Welisara, remains as the only institution solely dedicated for diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases in Sri Lanka. This hospital which provides services annually for around 100,000 out door Patients, carries out nearly 1,000 thoracic surgeries annually. As such, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition & Indigenous Medicine, to implement a development project in stages, with an investment of Rs.9,180 million to improve the health‑care facilities of the hospital to meet the present and the future demand of the patients suffering from respiratory diseases, was approved by the Cabinet.
