Conducting the State Vesak Festival of 2563rd year of Sri Buddhist Era

- It has been scheduled to conduct the State Vesak Festival of 2563rd year of Sri Buddhist Era on 17th May 2019 and the Vesak Full Moon Poya Day Programme on 18th May 2019 at Thotagamu Ancient Rathpath Rajamaha Viharaya at Thelwatta, Hikkaduwa in Galle with the State patronage. It has been proposed to conduct a programme for the physical development of the temples located in Galle District, spiritual programmes for creating a society of free of drugs enriched with spiritual development and programmes for making a sound economy and an awakening in literature and arts nurtured by Buddhism, to coincide with this ceremony. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, the Minister of Buddhasasana & Wayamba Development to conduct the State Vesak Festival - 2019 at the Thotagamu Ancient Rathpath Rajamaha Viharaya at Thelwatta, Hikkaduwa in Galle District, to declare the week from 15 May 2019 to 21st May 2019 as the Vesak Week and to implement the other said programmes to be conducted in line with that, was approved by the Cabinet.
