Issuing of Fitness Certificate of Electrical Safety for Elevators and Escalators

- There are certain factors to the effect that electrical failures lead to most of the accidents which take place in Elevators and Escalators installed in the buildings of Sri Lanka. In order to avoid the recurrence of such incidents, it has been proposed to introduce a methodology to issue a fitness Certificate of electrical safety of those elevators and escalators, with the concurrence of the relevant parties. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, the Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development to make it necessary to have a fitness Certificate on electrical safety for each of the elevators and escalators installed in Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet.
