Reimbursement of the loss incurred by the Super Markets engaged in the Government Programme to make available food commodities at the landed cost
- The Government has obtained the cooperation of the Supper Markets and the Lanka Sathosa Limited to sell essential food items such as, rice, sugar, potatoes, onions, lentils, sprats and mackerel at landed cost as a relief measure to the consumers for a period of four months commencing from 14 December 2017 to 15 April 2018. The Government has agreed to meet the loss so incurred for selling of these essential food items to the consumers by the said institutions as computed by an external auditor on his recommendations. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs, to settle the loss amounting to 203 million incurred by Cargils (Ceylon) PLC and the Lanka Sathosa Limited, was approved by the Cabinet.
