Development of the Mannar Fort

- With a view to attracting the foreign tourists, it was proposed by the budget proposals in 2018, to develop 06 old Forts situated in Matara, Hambantota, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Mannar and Kalpitiya with the collaboration of the Department of Archaeology and the Private Sector. Accordingly, the Department of Archaeology has prepared a project proposal for the development of the Mannar Fort. The dredging of the moat around the Fort has been identified as the main task in the proposal. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. John Amarathunga, the Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs, for the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation which has shown competency in such activities to carryout the process, was approved by the Cabinet.
