Rehabilitation of Kankesanthurai Harbour

- The Government has focused its attention on the development of Kankesanthurai Harbour into a commercial port which would strengthen the country's effort to become a regional maritime hub and contribute to the trade activities in the Northern Province. Accordingly, plans have also been made to acquire lands required for the said harbour development project and provide infrastructure and other utility facilities for the same. It has also been planned to renovate the Iyannar Kovil to pave the way towards religious and social wellbeing concurrent to the economic development of the area. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs, to carry out the relevant tasks for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
