Development of the Palaly (Kankesanthurai) Airport for the operation of Regional Commercial Flights

- The need to develop the Palaly Airport has been recognized for the operation of internal commercial flights with a view to promoting the tourism industry. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs, to make use of the Palaly Airport for the operation of internal commercial passenger flights according to a schedule and to carry out the development activities required for the Palaly Airport expeditiously by the Sri Lanka Air Force at an investment of Rs.1,950 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
