Accelerated implementation of the resettlement activities in the Northern and Eastern Provinces

- The Government has focused its attention to carry out the resettlement activities expeditiously in the Northern and Eastern Provinces affected due to conflicts by establishing permanent shelter, sanitation facilities, water supply and economic infrastructure facilities such as roads and electricity connections and educational and health facilities. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs, to construct 4,750 housing units under the owner driven housing programme, to improve the essential economic and social infrastructure facilities in such areas and to upgrade the Thickkam Distilleries for the revival of palmyrah related industry, was approved by the Cabinet.
