Police Reforms

- A Police Reforms Committee comprising of the experts was appointed to make recommendations for reforming the Sri Lanka Police, in order to update the present police methodologies and performance to cater to the present trends, relatively to the public demand for an efficient and accountable professional police service. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to implement the Police Reforms Action Plan containing the recommendations made by the said Committee in the areas of improving professionalism and standards of the Sri Lanka Police, enhancing accountability and transparency, practicing and upholding human rights, preventing and controlling crime and reducing fear of crime and increasing the public trust and confidence in the Police, was approved in principle by the Cabinet.
