Declaration of the Tripitaka as a World Heritage

- Approval of the Cabinet of Ministers had been granted previously to declare the Tripitaka which includes all preachings of Buddha as a National Heritage of Sri Lanka and to officially declare the same by the Government and reprint the Tripitaka and other related work under the supervision of the Ministry of Buddhasasana. Accordingly, on 05th January 2019, the Tripitaka was declared as a National Heritage at the Matale Alu Viharaya. As such, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, to move a resolution in Parliament to confirm the declaration so made and the necessity to take appropriate action to declare the Tripitaka as a World Heritage, was approved by the Cabinet.
