Kolonnawa Canal Diversion Scheme - Stage I
- It has been planned to implement the Kolonnawa Canal Diversion Scheme 4.8km in length, under 04 sub sections as Stage I,II, III, and IV for the purpose of controlling floods in the Colombo area and out of which the Contracts under Stage II and Stage III have already been awarded. Stage I of this project, has been scheduled to rehabilitate the initial section of the Kiththampahuwa Canal which includes removing of the bottlenecks to the canal flow, construction of gabion wall for the protection of the bank and O&M roads with side drain and construction of conduit structure with steel gates. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis & Western Development, to award the contract for the said purpose to M/s E&C-RR JV for a sum of Rs.859.5 million, as recommended by the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee, was approved by the Cabinet.
