Hosting the 18th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on International Trade on Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES)
- Sri Lanka is vested with the responsibility of hosting the 18th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on International Trade on Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the said Conference is scheduled to be held from 23rd May to 03rd June, 2019. It has been estimated that around 4,000 including the delegates from 183 countries, will participate in this event. This Conference is planned to be held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) premises. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. John Amarathunga, the Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs, to make a payment of Rs.230.37 million for securing the BMICH, the other buildings and other related services for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
