Establishment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Hubs for the improvement of the Secondary Education

With the objective of strengthening the Computer Assisted Teaching for Secondary Education, it has been planned to implement a project under the Ministry of Education for enhancing teaching and learning information and communication technology, for enhancing the information technology education level of the teachers and for providing equal opportunity of education to every student including those living in rural areas. Under this programme, a fully equipped e-learning National Contents - - Development Centre (NCDC) in the North Western Province and another 02 Provincial Information Communication Technology Education Centres (PICTEC) centering the Southern and Eastern Provinces are due to be established. The Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) of the Export and Import (KEXIM) Bank of South Korea has agreed to provide funds for the purpose and accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance & Mass Media, to enter into an Agreement to secure the required funds, was approved by the Cabinet.
