Appointment of professionals with competency and experience as Chairmen and Members of the Boards of Directors of Statutory Boards

- The Government has emphasized the need for the appointment of professionals with competency and experience as Chairmen and Members of the Boards of Directors when appointments are made as Chairmen and Members of the Boards of Directors in the Public Corporations, Statutory Boards inclusive of State Owned Enterprises, to enable to achieve the set objectives and targets of the said Enterprises. As such, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, to appoint a Committee under the Chairmanship of the Secretary to the President to make the necessary recommendations to enable the Ministers in‑charge of the relevant subjects to appoint graduates of a recognized University of Sri Lanka or a foreign University or persons with recognized professional qualifications and long term professional experience in the relevant field, based on the criteria approved previously by the Cabinet, except in the case of Ex-Officio Members, was approved by the Cabinet.
