Empowering local potato farmers

- The Government, with the increase of supply of potato in the market due to the bountiful harvest of potato in Welimada and suburban areas, has taken measures to purchase the potato harvest from the farmers with a view to ensuring a reasonable price for the products. As such, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, to secure provisions to settle the payments of the farmers for the potato stock purchased by the Consumer Co-operative Societies Federation Ltd., was approved by the Cabinet.
