Project on 'Biomass Energy 2022' for Fueling the Economy

- The importance of promoting the use of domestic energy resources has been identified with a view to minimizing the foreign exchange spent for the importation of fuels such as petroleum and coal for the energy needs of Sri Lanka, As such, a project named 'Biomass Energy 2022' has been planned to develop 1000 entrepreneurs for growing of biomass energy and processing of agricultural waste as biomass energy through the establishment of 50 biomass energy collection and processing centres across the country. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, to implement this programme with the financial support of the public, private, as well as the foreign sector, was approved by the Cabinet.
