Implementation of an Accelerated Agriculture Development Programme, “North East Agricultural Revival (Krushi Navodaya)”

- It has been identified that the challenges such as low productivity, scarcity of seeds, land use issues, climate changes, inefficient post harvest management, problems associated with marketing and value addition, difficulties in water supply, problems relating to agricultural roads and rehabilitation of tanks, scarcity of infrastructure facilities and the dearth of officers to be engaged in the field have to be overcome to further improve the agricultural harvest of the Northern and Eastern Provinces. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Agriculture, to implement an accelerated Agricultural Development Programme, “North East Agricultural Revival (Krushi Navodaya)” in order to further increase the contribution made by the Northern and Eastern provinces to the national economy and to uplift the living standard of the people in those areas, was approved by the Cabinet.
