Construction of the Headquarters building of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Department

- It has been decided to establish the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Department with all facilities in close proximity with the Colombo city in order to maintain a proper coordination with the Government Institutions, to conduct meetings, seminars and bi‑lateral discussions and to supervise the coast guard operations and administrative functions enabling more efficient and effective performance of the duties of the Department which is entrusted with the safety of the Sri Lankan maritime zone and the protection of lives and property within the zone. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to construct an eleven storey building for the Headquarters of the said Department within the premises of the Wellawatta area where another office of the same Department has already been established, was approved by the Cabinet.
