Modernization of the Seed and Planting Material Supply System of the Department of Agriculture

- Due to the limitations prevailing in the essential facilities to be deployed for the production activities carried out in the seed farms of the Department of Agriculture, it has been difficult to produce seeds at the required quantities. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Agriculture, to secure the funds required for the mechanization of seed processing, establishment of a combined drying and processing complex at Maha Illuppallama, Ampara and Aluttarama, purchasing the necessary equipment for the Palwehera and Bataatha farms, construction of 04 seed stores in Rahangala, Seethaeliya, Bataatha and Ampara farms and the development of seeds and other supply facilities, through the Medium Term Budgetary Framework, was approved by the Cabinet.
