Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2018-10-23

Obtaining financial assistance to strengthen the local authorities and to develop the provincial infrastructure facilities.

- The Cabinet of Ministers has granted its approval previously to implement the project for strengthening the local authorities and developing the provincial infrastructure facilities covering 134 local authorities of Northern, Eastern, North Central and Uva Provinces. The International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank has agreed to provide a financial assistance of (USD) 70 million for this project. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to conduct loan negotiations to secure funds and enter into relevant loan agreement, was approved by the Cabinet.
