Formulating a methodology for the frugal consumption of electricity

- Electricity access in Sri Lanka has been developed up to 100% and required measures have been taken by the Government to provide electricity during the 24 hours uninterruptedly. However, the cost incurred for generating electricity can be minimized with the frugal consumption of electricity and thereby reducing the fuel consumption incurred annually. As such, the Joint Proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy and Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance and Mass Media, to appoint an Officials' Committee with the Chairmanship of the Secretary, Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy to propose a practical mechanism for the frugal consumption of electricity, was approved by the Cabinet.
