Implementation of the 'Local Development Support Project' in Northern, Eastern, North Central and Uva Provinces

- The World Bank had agreed to provide the funds of US$ 50 million under the 'Local Development Support Project' for the development activities of the Local Authorities inclusive of strengthening its infrastructure facilities and institutional capabilities, covering all Local Authorities in the Northern, Eastern, North Central and Uva Provinces. However, with a view to securing the funds necessary for the further development activities of 134 Local Authorities in the said areas, the proposal made by Hon. Faiszer Musthapha, the Minister of Provincial Councils, Local Government and Sports, to increase the contribution of the World Bank for the project up to US$ 70 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
