Expediting the demining activities

- National Demining Programme was initiated in the year 2002 in the conflict affected areas and accordingly a land area of 137 square km has been cleared and handed over for resettlement activities by now. It has been designed to complete the demining activities by 2020, by implementing the said demining programme in an another land area of 28 square km in Northern, Eastern and the North Central Provinces. As such, the proposal made by Hon. D.M. Swaminathan, the Minister of Resettlement, Rehabilitation, Northern Development & Hindu Religious Affairs, to secure facilities required for the Demining Unit of the Sri Lanka Army engaged in the said activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
